  “If every American donated five hours a week, it would equal the labor of 20 million full-time volunteers.”  -- Whoopie Goldberg

Shelter, Inc. Needs Volunteers!

Shelter, Inc. volunteers range in age from twelve to ninety-six.  As an agency we value the care, commitment and contributions of volunteers.  Because we are dedicated to ensuring the safety of those we serve, we require criminal background clearances be conducted for all paid and volunteer applicants.

For those of you who may be interested in volunteering time or talent at Shelter, Inc. or perhaps making a donation, there are a HOST of jobs, opportunities, and ideas for you to choose from!  If you have just an hour, or maybe more, we have opportunities that match your time availability, talent and community spirit.

Volunteer and Community Highlights
Special Thank You to all of our Volunteers and Community Supporters;

Several of our Volunteers at our Annual Appreciation dinner.
 Joyce Gohlke (Alpena) and Sharon Endicott (Oscoda) spend endless hours shopping, gathering, washing and repairing household goods, clothing and children's items for survivor families served by Shelter, Inc. in northeast Michigan.  Rest and retirement are words absent from the actions and vocabulary of these two dynamic women.  They are awesome examples of community spirit, caring and support.

 Generations working side by side toward building a healthy, safe community:
  - A twelve year old youngster visiting her grandmother in Rogers City for the summer is volunteering at the Shelter, Inc. thrift store, Seconds on Third.
  - Volunteer Joan, her daughter Beverly and granddaughter Izzy are working side by side in the Shelter, Inc. Oscoda thrift store.

Beth, Gaye, Joan and Sally show up week after week, month after month, year after year to answer crisis lines and warmly welcome victims of domestic violence and sexual assault seeking safety.

A.B.A.T.E. Region 16, Hale Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Oscoda Plastics, Iosco International Quota Club, Oscoda Area United Way along with other service clubs, groups and caring individuals through time, monetary and material donations built a children's program service area adjacent to the Shelter, Inc. services facility in Oscoda, Michigan.
